Segways. They'll never really be cool. Let's be honest, they don't exactly fit the same category as, say, a motorbike.  They don't come with leather jackets and you don't look a badass riding one, even with the trendiest of shades. They are, however, a marvel of modern technology and a fantastic way to explore South East Queensland

In fact, they're so amazing, anyone can ride a segway.  The auto balancing technology shifts under your weight and is so precise that not only does stepping onto what is essentially a board between two wheels feel like stepping onto a solid platform, but it's how you control your speed.  Simply shift your weight forward and you'll zoom forwards.  Braking and reversing is as simple as shifting your weight backwards. Steering is controlled by a simple handlebar.  It takes five minutes to learn and after the first 20 minutes you'll be a seasoned veteran.

It's a unique and relatively exhilarating way to explore.  While they can't tackle intense off-road trails you'll be surprised the first time you go up a hill and it doesn't slow down.  They've got some serious grunt and a decent top speed, about the speed of a very fast jog or slow sprint. The segways of tour groups are usually speed limited to prevent people racing off so don’t expect to go racing, but you can reach a fair clip.
